Moms, But Make It Coffee…

Starring My Favorite Coffee Shop!

One of my absolute favorite coffee shops is located right in the heart of Leander, TX and I could write a 1000 words just on Casa Costa Bake Shop alone. Run out of a restored historical home, it’s a family run business, and features Brazilian coffee, pastries, and a whole slew of gluten free options to choose from. The owners are so very generous to the Leander community and the best part for me is sitting at the community table in the main room and getting a couple hours of work, conversation, or reading in. It’s one of the few places I don’t need to wear my headphones to work because it has such a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere! In the spring, early summer, and fall, Casa Costa has multiple outdoor tables that are set up under several sprawling oak trees. they’re painted these beautiful turquoise colors and with the green grass and shade of the oak trees, it just beckons you to relax. Add in the fact that it’s off the busier main street running through Old Town Leader, it really is the perfect place to take your family and let the kids run around while you enjoy your coffee while it’s hot, for once!

One of my favorite treats to enjoy (alongside a hot latte or enjoying their superb drip coffee with half and half) is the guava pastry. This takes me right back to growing up in Central Florida and the amazing Cuban pastries we had! Our kids love their giant cupcakes, especially when they have their specialty ones like the chocolate strawberry cupcake with the Lindor truffle on top. Do not sleep on their gluten free blueberry muffins because they are out of this world and you can’t even tell they’re gluten free.

It was when I was telling one of my girlfriends about Casa Costa that she gave me the genius idea about highlighting a coffee shop AND writing about the different types of coffee drinks that each of the “types” of Moms would be. I loved that idea and it got me thinking…what coffee drink would I be? Without further ado, let’s dive into Moms, But Make It Coffee!

 1. The Espresso Mom (The Go-Getter)
Strong, focused, and always on the move—this mom is a shot of pure energy. She's up before the sun, juggling a color-coded calendar, and somehow remembers everybody’s dentist appointment. Her love language is efficiency, and she doesn’t have time for small talk—unless it’s while speed-walking through HEB. Short and strong, just like her opinions on screen time limits.

2. The Iced Vanilla Oat Milk Latte Mom (The Millennial Cool Mom)
Trendy and effortlessly put-together (even if she’s running 10 minutes late), this mom is calm chaos wrapped in a Stanley cup. She reads parenting blogs and Instagram captions like gospel and probably has a side hustle or three. She’s the first to say, “Same,” when you mention burnout, but she’ll also send you a perfectly timed meme that saves your whole day. She’s soft but savvy—and don’t even think about suggesting she drinks regular milk. Ok, but also, have you tried oatmilk? It’s surprisingly great in coffee!

3. The Black Coffee with a Splash of Half & Half Mom (The No-Nonsense OG)
She’s been around the block and doesn’t have time for fluff. This mom tells it like it is, swears by hard boundaries, and is learning to not give advice you didn’t ask for but probably needed. She may not “do Pinterest,” but she’s the one you call when it’s all hitting the fan. Her motto? “Suck it up, buttercup,” lovingly delivered over a steaming mug of caffeine and grit.

4. The Frappuccino Mom (The Fun & Extra One)
Sugary, social, and a little over the top (but in the best way) - this mom brings the party. She’s got themed snacks, matching T-shirts for field trips, and a full Pinterest board for every holiday. She's the loudest at the school talent show and turns even a Tuesday into a celebration. Some might call her “extra,” but she calls it making memories.

5. The Half-Caff Soy Latte Mom (The Anxiously Trying-Her-Best Mom)
Tired but trying. This mom has researched every parenting method known to mankind and is still unsure if she's doing it right. She’s cautious, deeply empathetic, and might overthink everything from birthday gifts to bedtime routines. She drinks her coffee like she lives her life—moderated, intentional, and with just a little bit of self-doubt sprinkled on top.

6. The Drive-Thru Coffee Mom (The Realist Mom)

She doesn’t have time to be fancy—she’s got five minutes, three errands, and a kid melting down in the backseat. This mom is fueled by caffeine, podcasts, and the art of the mobile order. She’s the mom who people ask, “How does she do it all?” and she’s quick to keep it real with them she, in fact, does not do it all. She’s resourceful, scrappy, and unapologetically practical. Her mantra? “Good enough is great,” and she lives it like a champ.

7. The Dirty Chai Mom (The Spiritual Hustler)
A little spice, a little espresso, and a whole lot of multitasking. She’s equal parts woo-woo and workflow—journaling in the morning, leading a meeting by lunch, and making a homemade vegan dinner by five. She believes in manifesting and meal planning. You’ll find her doing breathwork with one kid and homework with the other, sipping something that smells like cardamom and accomplishment. She’s also the mom friend who you call when you need to vent, cry, and also come out of the conversation with a plan of how to figure out your right next move.

Some of my favorite memories have come from sitting with my girlfriends, most of them Moms, but not all of them, in a coffee shop and just catching up on all aspects of our lives. It was in a coffee shop that a dear friend of mine gave me the encouragement I needed to take the plunge and start my own business. It was in Casa Costa specifically where another friend of mine had the courage to share some feedback with me about a blindspot in my life. For me, coffee shops are special places where deep conversations can be had, work can get done, relaxing with an amazing book can happen, and a little refresh for your soul can be found. Whatever type of “Coffee Drink Mom” (or person!) you are, take time this next week to slow down and find your own version of Casa Costa. I promise, it’s worth it.

And yes, I’m 100% the No Nonsense OG for most of the time, but I’m diligently doing my best to embrace all the other types of Moms because they each have their own strengths. And isn’t that a beautiful thing!

Love you, mean it, friends.
